To find a person online can be done much more easily these days with a plethora of sites that allow you to search various pieces of information which you may have at hand.
Sometimes it’s a bit like a detective – You have snippets of information but not the whole picture so you use what information you have and see if it gets you to the right objective – finding that person!
One of the first things that most people think of is using “free” resources – these are usually quite comprehensive but usually as a starter you’re going to need the surname of the person and at least their initials if you haven’t got their full name. The next item of information you will need, if you can find it is their location. If you have these pieces of information then you can try the following site http://www.phonenumbers.net. If you’re not from the U.S. maybe from the U.K. you will see a choice of several links on the page which will direct you to the major phone company directory – in this case BT (British Telecom) – fairly straight-forward!
There are a few more sites worth trying http://www.anywho.com, http://www.whitepages.com and http://www.people.yahoo.com. These however mainly provide information on U.S. and Canadian residents and are often quite poor at retrieving information from overseas. In addition if the number is unlisted then it is likely that you may not be successful in searching for the information.
OK so say for example that the persons number is ex directory, maybe they haven’t got a landline, maybe just a cell phone (many of my friends have only cell phones), then your friend or ex colleague is going to be that much harder to trace!
Another, often free method is by email search. There are several large directories which often supply the ability to register email addresses as well as retrieve them. Just to give you a few of them, http://www.bigfoot.com, http://www.yahoo.people.com, Who? Where? (owned by Lycos) http://www.whowhere.lycos.com and World Email Directory with 18 million private emails and 140 million business emails on http://www.worldemail.com.
Search engines are another resource that are often overlooked and are very powerful. Most people don’t realize that once you put a contact name or address on say a classified ad in a newspaper that is available online there is a very real possibility that this will have been indexed by one or more of your favourite search engines. It’s often as easy as putting in a phone number and getting an accurate result up to about 30% of the time.
Another method to employ that sometimes works is to remember, if we can what interests they have had and check out some of the discussion forums – sometimes this works but it’s a bit of a long shot!
Another no-cost method – akin to using your established network of friends and acquaintances is to utilize professional networks to find your colleague. If your friend was a college buddy and was doing accountancy and business studies then it may be worthwhile checking out the CPA register or professional equivalent. This could be applied to other professional or trades bodies.
To find a person online and do it free takes a bit of time but it should be remembered that some people will be difficult to find and you may need to explore other options – depending on the need or urgency!
So you have a problem finding someone? You can find a person online from existing cell phone and land line information. Find information on that Nanny or potential employee using their social security number or cell phone number. You will also be able to get Free search information from some of these online sites.
