It’s a well rehearsed mantra that if you follow the niche marketing theory, you are well on the way to internet profits, but people often misuse the theory.
In other words, they get some of it right, but not all of it – so let’s look at how micro niches work.
I always think that examples work well to explain niche marketing, so in this case let’s use golf, and why not, it’s a multi-million dollar business!
Golf is a sub market of the general sport market, but simply ‘golf’ is not good enough for niche marketing, because you do not know what someone wants if they type ‘golf’ into a search engine.
If someone types in ‘golf swing tips’ then that is a niche you can work with. You know what they are after, and can provide them with a product which appeals to people looking for golf swing tips! That’s the simple theory of niche marketing, but the micro niche takes it further.
With the micro model, you go for as narrow a niche as you possibly can. Sticking with the golf example, how about if you went for ‘golf putting tips’ or ‘golf driving tips’?
You can see that these are micro niches, because the are very specific, and are quite different from each other.
As a result, if you create a product specifically about putting tips, you can target the putting tips market. There may not be so many people searching for that phrase, but for all the people that *are* searching, you can put yourself top of their list because you are providing *exactly* what they want.
Once they have bought from you, you can then use follow up or backend products, and in the case of golf it may well be your product with driving tips! So by using the micro niche marketing model, you are much more efficient in gathering in the first sales, which you then follow up and cultivate over time.
