Having knowledge of and avoiding programs that contain irritating Spyware is one way to detecting and keeping your PC free of the harmful and invasive Spyware.
However, we oftentimes as users aren’t even aware that we have it on our systems until those annoying pop-ups and sudden changes to the welcome page or unsolicited addition of icons to the toolbar or desktop.
Most Spyware programs run piggyback with other programs especially freeware that can be downloaded off the Internet. They are installed unknowingly through the enabling of ActiveX, it runs through ActiveX and is automatically installed via the Microsoft component.
The intent of this kind of action is to it track and monitor the surfing and computer habits of the user. When the infected system visits the site that has been logged automatically by the Spyware, it delivers ads and pops-up based on logs created from the surfing habits.
Spyware Adware and Trojan also find their ways into our computers through freeware. Freeware and free downloads are great resources Internet users avail themselves to and to be candid, most of these resources are useful in themselves. How free is free? Adware, or advertiser supported software does not cost you anything out of pocket, is a price that sometimes costs more than most can bear.
In exchange for some personal details (name, email, address, etc.) you get a great piece of software at no charge. Most of the time these freeware programs demands for user personal information which seemed harmless, this information is now stored on your hard drive and transmitted via the Internet back to the company or its legion of advertisers…all without your knowledge. Worst of all, some Spyware and Adware programs can log your keystrokes and send your surfing habits or even your passwords off to strangers for exploitation.
This is where the importance of Spyware removal becomes so obvious. Much like viruses, Adware and Spyware scripts can sneak into a computer not protected with a Spyware removal tool with little or no warning and masterfully hide themselves with obscure names in oddly placed folders.
With these tactics, even the most sophisticated computer user will find it next to impossible to find and permanently delete Spyware.
